Tri-Klops Sculpt

I love Masters of the Universe.  I never had many of the action figures growing up...maybe only the one He-Man with the rotating battle damaged armor.  But I did dig the cartoons.  MOTU is definitely one of the regularly selected things to watch with the kids (behind The Tick and Scooby-Doo).  I even liked the reboot of the series in the early 2000's.

Anyway, Tri-Klops is a cool, albeit underrated, character.  He lacks the the creepiness of Mer-Man, Beast Man, or Trap-Jaw.  He's more of "the regular guy (with rotating eyes)".  Tri-Klops reminds me a lot of Mekaneck who actually had a great episode, "Mekaneck's Lament", in the newer series that delved into his feelings of inadequacy.  The new series made Tri-Klops as a ninja-inventor for lack of a better description but I bet he faced some of the same struggles as Mekaneck...only without the care and support of friends.  I'm pretty sure Skeletor is a terrible boss.

Anyway, back to the sculpt.  This was done with a base of aluminum foil which was layered with Sculpey and baked.  After that, a layer of Super Sculpey was added and baked to flesh out the shape.  More Super Sculpey added and baked as I went.  The visor is a ring of...um...I think a tomato paste can cut down to the right width and layered with Super Sculpey.  It was really the diameter of the tomato paste can that determined the size of the whole sculpt.  The visor sits on a ledge/ring around the head to allow it to rotate relatively smoothly.

Overall, I like the result.  Somehow, Tri-Klops looks more boney and, consequently, elderly than I'd planned but it still works.  I keep him on my desk and work and occasionally rotate his visor from "Indifferent" to "Angry" to "Really Angry" depending upon my mood.
